Last Known Surviving 9/11 Search and Rescue Dog Laid To Rest

Bretagne, the 16-year-old golden retriever believed to be the last surviving search-and-rescue dog that helped scan the wreckage of the World Trade Center for victims was euthanized Monday at a veterinarian's office.

Bretagne was retired and had been slowed down a lot because of her age, although she was still a fixture at the fire house!

The canine and her owner Denise Corliss were at Ground Zero on 9/11. After her retirement 6 years ago, Bretagne helped train other search dogs, and volunteered at a reading program at a local elementary school.

She had one last salute by the local fireman, before she entered the vet in a heart warming, tear jerking moment to remember!
